4 Built-in Beds For Small Spaces, From Window Nooks to Artsy Attics
"We only kept the ceiling's exposed beams from the original structure,"
"Right angles that were too prominent would have given the project a rigid appearance,"
"Thanks to the curves, we gain fluidity and create a smooth transition between the different functions of the apartment."
"I like that there's a functional aspect to the home, with everything being easily accessible,"
A 258-square-foot Left Bank apartment was transformed from a dark, partitioned cube into a pleasant, compact home by opening up existing rooms and restructuring spatial elements. A large corner module raises the bed to create storage underneath and separates sleeping space from the living room, kitchen, and bathroom while its color palette references Mediterranean fincas on Menorca. Exposed ceiling beams were retained, and pre-existing walls were replaced with half-height partitions topped with soft, rounded curves to allow light to penetrate every area and to produce fluid transitions. A sixth-floor attic was redesigned as a whimsical, sky-blue children’s room with a wooden bed under a skylight for functional, accessible proportions.
