Review: Smuin's season opener introduces new choreographers, revives a classic with evocative trio of works

The evening began with the world premiere, Jennifer Archibald's propulsive "ByCHANCE." Set to an eclectic, rhythmically driven score by Ezio Bosso, the 25-minute work featured muscular pas de deux that grew into larger ensembles.
The choreography was inventive, expressive and assured. The partnering, by turns tender and tense, eloquent and mysterious, captured the intimate, seemingly infinite marvel of human interaction, adding a depth of field and color through lighting.
