Instead of fate, passion or a deep soul-to-soul connection pulling its leads together like magnets, overlapping vacation schedules and vapid conversation plop world-famous writer Katherine and handsome, boring finance bro Owen into an acquaintanceship that turns into more.
Owen is a low-level private equity guy tagging along with his girlfriend, Lily, whose hit beach read has launched her to literary fame, exacerbating the cracks in their mismatched relationship.
The film fails to make a convincing case for why Katherine, a chic, successful writer, would be interested in Owen, a walking red flag with an inferiority complex.
What's meant to be a charming and romantic tale ends up feeling forced, as the script repeatedly pushes Katherine and Owen together despite the lack of chemistry.
