Please touch: Rare, unusual and artistic books are making Miami a center of print culture
Briefly

The University of Miami's Special Collections received a rare set of engravings, commissioned by Empress Josephine Bonaparte, amidst an unsolicited donation from John du Pont, a noteworthy figure with a complex past. This treasure comprises three pristine volumes of 'Les Roses' by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, an essential botanical illustrator. The serendipitous arrival of the volumes emphasizes the library's wealth of rare materials available for public viewing, encouraging interaction without protective gloves. Cristina Favretto, the collection's director, aims to increase awareness of the significant yet overlooked holdings.
"People can touch it, which is amazing," said Cristina Favretto, the collection's director since 2008, who has been on a mission to draw attention to its holdings. "People didn't know what we had for a long time."
