Jules Feiffer, the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist, playwright, and author, passed away at the age of 95 from congestive heart failure. His prolific career included a long-running comic strip along with multiple plays, screenplays, and children's books. Feiffer, who was active until his later years, had recently published a book just months before his death. His wife noted that he maintained his humor and sharpness till the very end. Feiffer's art deeply explored themes of communication, personal relationships, and societal issues, making him a significant figure in American literature and journalism.
Feiffer explained to the Chicago Tribune in 2002, his work dealt with communication and the breakdown thereof, between men and women, parents and children, a government and its citizens.
My goal is to make people think, to make them feel and, along the way, to make them smile if not laugh, Feiffer told the South Florida Sun Sentinel in 1998.
