Good One movie review & film summary (2024) | Roger Ebert
Briefly

The most important things in life happen between the words. Subterranean noise is often louder than dialogue... it is challenging to pull off in film, particularly if the subterranean moments are small shifts in consciousness where the character (and audience) understands that nothing will be the same again. India Donaldson's 'Good One' is extraordinary in how much Donaldson and her actors trust the subterranean, allowing it to work far beneath the surface, between the words.
Chris and Matt are lifelong friends with a strained relationship, setting off on a challenging hike with Chris' daughter Sam and Matt's son. Each character's traits and behaviors subtly reveal deeper complexities, showcasing how small shifts in consciousness can profoundly impact their interactions and relationships.
