Fame, lust and drugs: Dorian Gray staged as a genderfluid rock musical
Briefly

Oscar would be delighted for his novel to be adapted as a musical celebrating open queerness, says Linnie Reedman, creator and director of Dorian: The Musical.
Published in 1891, The Picture of Dorian Gray was unable to directly address homosexuality, which was then illegal. Basil Hallward's infatuation with Dorian hinted at in the book.
Wilde's first known gay relationship was with Robbie Ross, but his most chronicled was with Lord Alfred Bosie Douglas, starting the same year Dorian Gray was published.
The poet ended the poem Two Loves with the famous line: 'I am the love that dare not speak its name,' reflecting the hidden nature of queer relationships in that time.
