Maya Merhige, a 16-year-old Berkeley student, conquered the English Channel, Catalina Channel, and Manhattan swim, achieving the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.
Merhige abides by strict rules of marathon swimming, including no breaks, no wetsuit, no help, and eliminating the awareness of time and distance during her long swims.
