Anne Kaufman Schneider, 99, Ardent Keeper of Her Father's Plays, Dies
Briefly

Anne Kaufman Schneider, daughter of iconic playwright George S. Kaufman, passed away at 99. Her lifelong mission was to revitalize her father's celebrated works, which included hits like 'You Can't Take It With You' and 'Of Thee I Sing', both earning Pulitzer Prizes. Despite her father's declining prominence posthumously, she played a pivotal role in rejuvenating his legacy through numerous revivals over fifty years, starting with a major revival in 1965, demonstrating that his works are indeed timeless classics of American theatre.
Headstrong girls are difficult, Ms. Kaufman Schneider once told The New York Times, but that was the source of my good relationship with my father.
Even so, after his death in 1961 at the age of 71, Kaufman was a hard sell for theatrical revivals.
Ms. Kaufman Schneider proceeded to oversee her father's renaissance over the next 50-plus years.
