"I would squirm in my chair as my new teacher worked their way through the class register, and my stomach would drop as they attempted to say my full name: Priti Ubhayakar."
"I felt so ashamed of my name that I never thought to correct them. I hated it, mostly because I was teased."
"When people asked me my name, I never knew what to say. If I said pretty in my English accent, they would try to imitate it."

Priti experienced significant discomfort with her name, especially during school, where teachers and peers mispronounced it, leading to teasing. In the UK, she was often called 'pretty,' which she found humiliating. Moving to the US complicated matters further, as she struggled with how to pronounce her name in different accents. To cope, she let friends introduce her. Despite the ongoing challenges, she eventually found a way to embrace her identity after traveling and reflecting on her experiences.
