An electric crowd gathered at the famous Umayyad Mosque in Damascus for the first Friday Prayer since rebels toppled Bashar al-Assad, where civilians and fighters worshiped side by side, chanting and celebrating their newfound liberty.
Ahmed al-Shara, head of the Islamist group that led the ousting of Assad, urged Syrians to show their joy at the end of the Assad family's rule and emphasized the need to focus on rebuilding the country.
