A UN commission concludes that genocide is occurring in Gaza and attributes responsibility to Israeli authorities at the highest echelons for orchestrating a genocidal campaign almost two years long with specific intent to destroy the Palestinian group in Gaza. The commission cites the scale of killings, aid blockages, forced displacement and the destruction of a fertility clinic as evidence. Israel declined to cooperate and accused the commission of a political agenda, while it is contesting genocide allegations at the International Court of Justice and invokes a right to self-defence after the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack. Reported Gaza casualties exceed 64,000 and some areas face famine conditions.
