The search for the three climbers on Aoraki/Mount Cook has been suspended, with authorities believing they likely did not survive due to extreme conditions.
After reviewing the situation, including the time missing and the recovered items, we do not believe the men have survived,” stated Commander Inspector Vicki Walker.
The two American climbers, Kurt Blair and Carlos Romero, were certified guides in skiing, alpine climbing, and rock climbing, as per the American Mountain Guides Association.
Severe weather greatly hampered rescue efforts, leading to the difficult decision to suspend the search for the missing climbers, who disappeared after a climbing attempt.
