Over the past 16 days, these blockades have stranded thousands of trucks on key highways, triggering shortages of food, fuel and medical supplies in La Paz and other cities."
Bolivian security forces clashed with followers of ex-President Evo Morales as thousands marched into La Paz during a nationwide protest movement. After a six-day march through the Andes, demonstrators called for Paz’s resignation and used dynamite sticks and slingshots. Riot police responded with tear gas as dynamite blasts occurred downtown. Road blockades and rallies that began two weeks earlier stranded trucks on major highways, triggering shortages of food, fuel, and medical supplies in La Paz and other cities. Paz reached deals with some striking miners and teachers, but many groups continued protesting.
