"every decent person on this planet sincerely wishes that the people of Iran would finally be freed from the current regime, which has brought so much evil to Ukraine and other countries."
Volodymyr Zelenskyy met Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran's last shah, on February 13 at the Munich Security Conference. Video showed them shaking hands in a wood-paneled room and sitting at a table. Pahlavi thanked Zelenskyy for voicing support for Iranian protesters after his Davos speech. Zelenskyy said that timely strong support matters and described his support as "from the heart." Security forces reportedly killed thousands during January protests, drawing condemnation from Washington and allies. Zelenskyy linked Iran to Russia's war effort through Shahed attack drones used against Ukrainian civilians. The United States has not endorsed Pahlavi.
