What is the Trump plan for Gaza and will it work?
"News of a ceasefire plan to bring Israel's two-year-long campaign of genocide in Gaza to an end has been gaining traction, according to reports, and is expected to feature when United States President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meet at the White House on Monday. Trump's 21-point plan would end Israel's war on Gaza, which has killed at least 66,055 people and wounded 168,346 since it began in October 2023. Thousands more are believed to be dead and trapped under the rubble."
"One big point seems to be that Trump has eased up on his rhetoric of ethnically cleansing Gaza. Point 12 of the plan, according to The Times of Israel, says: No one will be forced to leave Gaza, but those who choose to leave will be allowed to return. Moreover, Gazans will be encouraged to remain in the Strip and offered an opportunity to build a better future there."
Trump's 21-point plan proposes ending Israel's military campaign in Gaza and envisions removal of Hamas from governance there. The plan reportedly relies heavily on Tony Blair's proposal and calls for the United States to work with Arab and international partners to install a temporary international stabilization force. The plan would administer Gaza through a transitional government of Palestinian technocrats, exclude Hamas from political authority while offering amnesty to members who commit to peaceful coexistence, and provide safe passage for those who wish to leave. Point 12 states no one will be forced to leave Gaza and return would be allowed.
