US falls below Ukraine in press freedom as global autocracy takes hold
"According to RSF, for the first time in its history, 'over half of the world's countries now fall into the 'difficult' or 'very serious' categories for press freedom. In 25 years, the average score of all 180 countries and territories surveyed in the Index has never been so low.'"
"The US is now in 64th place globally, falling seven spots in one year. The US ranks behind Namibia (23), South Africa (21), Costa Rica (38), and Canada (20)."
Nordic countries, including Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, rank highly in the World Happiness Report and life expectancy. They also lead in press freedom, with Norway at the top of the World Press Freedom Index. However, global press freedom has significantly declined, with over half of the world's countries categorized as having 'difficult' or 'very serious' press freedom issues. The United States has dropped to 64th place, falling behind several other nations in press freedom rankings.
