A strike described as a "double tap" on Gaza's Nasser Hospital killed twenty people, including rescue workers and journalists. President Donald Trump said he was initially unaware, expressed displeasure, and suggested the war in Gaza could end "in weeks," a reminder that complex conflicts do not resolve by words alone. At least five journalists were among the hospital dead, following six journalists killed two weeks earlier. The European Commission called for protection of civilians and journalists under international law. Tánaiste Simon Harris said collective EU action is "long overdue" after 206 former ambassadors urged stepped-up EU intervention amid fears of famine.
Yet nothing is done in response, as if nothing out of the ordinary has taken place. The latest outrage is what was described as "the double tap" strike on one of Gaza's key hospitals. Twenty people died, including rescue workers and journalists. President Donald Trump initially said he was not aware of it, but followed up by saying: "I'm not happy about it. I don't want to see it." He later suggested Israel's war on Gaza could have a "conclusive ending in weeks".
The shamefully limp efforts of world leaders have so failed to rein in Israel Once again, easily said, but where is the follow-up? Tánaiste Simon Harris said collective European Union action against Israel is "long overdue". Mr Harris was responding to a report that 206 former European ambassadors and officials had signed a letter calling on the EU to step up action against Israel over the horrendous humanitarian situation in Gaza.
