Thailand and Cambodia to hold peace talks DW 07/27/2025
Briefly

The leaders of Thailand and Cambodia will hold a meeting in Malaysia to address the ongoing border clashes that have resulted in at least 34 fatalities and the displacement of approximately 200,000 individuals. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will mediate the discussions between Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. The Cambodian leader expressed support for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, while Anwar stressed the importance of this ceasefire in the ongoing conflict over contested border temples.
They have asked me to try and negotiate a peace settlement. I'm discussing the parameters, the conditions, but what is important is [an] immediate ceasefire.
Hun Manet said earlier Sunday that his country had agreed to pursue an 'immediate and unconditional ceasefire.'
At least 34 people have been killed and around 200,000 displaced in fighting between the two South-East Asian neighbors over contested border temples this week, with artillery exchanges continuing on Sunday.
I spoke to both of the prime ministers and I think, by the time I got off, I think they want to settle now.
