"The war in Sudan, now in its third year, has intensified with civilian deaths, executions, and ethnic violence increasing since the beginning of this year, according to a UNreport released Friday. "Sudan's conflict is a forgotten one, and I hope that my office's report puts the spotlight on this disastrous situation where atrocity crimes, including war crimes, are being committed," UN human rights chief Volker Turk said in a statement."
"It found that civilian deaths this year have sharply increased, with 3,384 fatalities in the first half of 2025, which is 80% of the total of civilian deaths from last year. "Several trends remained consistent during the first half of 2025: a continued pervasiveness of sexual violence, indiscriminate attacks, and the widespread use of retaliatory violence against civilians, particularly on an ethnic basis, targeting individuals accused of 'collaboration' with opposing parties," the report said."
Medical and aid workers reported dozens killed after Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck a mosque at the Abu Shouk displaced persons' camp outside El-Fasher. The Emergency Response Room said 75 people were killed, while the Sudan Doctors Network reported 43 worshipers killed and condemned the act as a violation of international and humanitarian law. The strike occurred as RSF forces push to dislodge the Sudanese army from El-Fasher. A UN report states the war has intensified in its third year, with 3,384 civilian fatalities in the first half of 2025 and widespread sexual violence, indiscriminate attacks and ethnic retaliatory violence.
