Sarah Ferguson apologised to Jeffrey Epstein in an email dated 26 April, writing she "must humbly apologise to you and your heart for that." She denied calling him a paedophile and said she did not "absolutely not, say the P word" about him but understood it had been reported. Ferguson wrote that she had been instructed to act quickly to preserve her career as a children's book author and children's philanthropist. In March 2011 she described her association with Epstein as a gigantic error of judgment and vowed never to have anything to do with him. A spokesperson said the email responded to a defamation threat and expressed regret about the past association.
"I know you feel hellaciously let down by me from what you were either told or read and I must humbly apologise to you and your heart for that."
"I was instructed to act with the utmost speed if I would have any chance of holding on to my career as a children's book author and a children's philanthropist, she is said to have written."
"I abhor paedophilia and any sexual abuse of children."
