Santa Cruz surfer's epic ride at Mavericks was largest of the season, but fell short of record
"What they came up with kind of shocked the crowd,"
"If it happens, it happens, and if not,"
"I got to ride the tallest wave of my life and I'll never forget it."
"Men's Biggest Wave Winner"
A massive swell two days before Christmas produced one of the season's largest waves at Mavericks off Half Moon Bay. Alo Slebir rode a towering wave on Dec. 23 that drew national attention and preliminary estimates as high as 108 feet. The World Surf League officially measured the ride at 76 feet. The 76-foot measurement earned Slebir the Men's Biggest Wave for the 2024–2025 season but did not reach the 100-foot milestone or surpass the 86-foot world record set at Nazaré in 2020. The same storm destroyed the Santa Cruz Wharf, and photography of the ride won Biggest Wave Photo honors.
