Alessandro Alo Slebir awaits official photogrammetry measurement to determine whether his Mavericks descent during last winter's storm constitutes a new world-record wave and surpasses 100 feet. The swell struck two days before Christmas and coincided with a storm that destroyed the Santa Cruz Wharf. Early unofficial estimates placed the ride at about 108 feet, exceeding the 86-foot record set at Nazaré in 2020. The geometric photogrammetry analysis will establish an official height. The viral footage rekindled global interest in Mavericks, honored Jeff Clark's 1975 pioneering of the break, and highlighted the extraordinary forces and sensations of big-wave surfing.
