So we don't want to be involved with having somebody else get in, and we have the same situation that we had for the last long period of years. So we are going to run the country until such time as we could do a safe, proper and judicous transition."
"And it has to be judicious, because that's what we're all about. We want peace, liberty, and justice for the great people of Venezuela, and that includes many from Venezuela that are now living in the United States and want to go back to their country, it's their homeland. We can't take a chance if somebody else takes over Venezuela that doesn't have the good of the Venezuelan people in mind. Decades of that. We're not going to let that happen."
U.S. forces struck Caracas early Saturday morning and President Trump announced at 4:21 AM on Truth Social that Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were captured and flown to the United States. Trump held a Florida press conference Saturday morning and delivered a rambling opening statement repeatedly asserting that the United States will 'run the country' until a safe, proper, and judicious transition can occur. He said the aim is peace, liberty, and justice for Venezuelans, including expatriates who want to return. Trump cited drug interdiction, claiming 97 percent knocked out and blaming much of the trafficking on Venezuela. He emphasized staying until a proper transition takes place.
