Videos posted online showed Palestinians celebrating in the streets and children dancing in reaction, celebrating a rare moment of relief amid two years of genocide. "Here in the middle of the Gaza Strip, where I live among many displaced families, the atmosphere today feels different. Since morning, children have been running through the streets, smiling and celebrating. We heard fireworks bursting across the neighborhood in joy," Ghada Eyad told Truthout."
Israel and Hamas agreed to the first phase of a ceasefire intended to temporarily pause fighting in Gaza and enable the release of Israeli and Palestinian captives. U.S. President Donald Trump announced the deal on Truth Social after unveiling a controversial 20-point plan. Palestinians in Gaza reacted with celebrations, children dancing and fireworks, and some local prices began to fall. Displaced families reported renewed hope but also fear that Israel might not honor the agreement. Residents expressed a desire for lasting safety, security, and the restoration of basic rights and dignity.
