Nigeria: 12 abducted Borno women and girls released DW 11/30/2025
""All 12 were released," Abubakar Mazhinyi, president of the local Askira-Uba council, told the AFP news agency. The Nigeria Army said "the rescued girls have been evacuated to a secure military facility where they are receiving comprehensive medical care, psychological support and debriefing. Upon completion of these processes, they will be formally reunited with their families.""
"The recent kidnapping is a harsh reminder of the 2014 abduction of nearly 300 girls in Chibok. Elsewhere in the country, armed gangs seized more than 300 children from a Catholic school in the central-western Niger delta state last week. Although some managed to escape, more than 265 children and teachers are still in captivity. These abductions were claimed by local gangs rather than jihadists. On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu declared a security emergency, ordering mass recruitment of police and army personnel."
On November 22, young women and girls abducted in northeastern Borno state were freed late Saturday. Local officials confirmed all 12 were released. The Nigeria Army said the rescued girls were evacuated to a secure military facility for medical care, psychological support and debriefing before family reunification. Thirteen women and girls aged 16 to 23 had been taken near farms close to a jihadist hideout, with Boko Haram/ISWAP blamed; one was released after saying she was nursing a baby. The incident echoes the 2014 Chibok abductions. Separate armed gangs seized over 300 children in the Niger delta; more than 265 remain captive. President Bola Tinubu declared a security emergency.
