Knox was wrongly convicted in 2009, sentenced to 26 years, served four years, and was exonerated by Italy's highest court in 2015. An invitation to give a keynote for The Innocence Project prompted her return and a public overture to the prosecutor. Knox and Robinson married in 2020 and sought to start a family; she felt compelled to address the past and the lost opportunity to become a mother.
