Most Taiwanese would defend island against China, poll finds DW 10/09/2024
Briefly

According to a recent survey, 67.8% of Taiwanese respondents expressed they would be 'very willing or somewhat willing' to defend their island against a potential Chinese invasion.
While 64% of those surveyed consider China’s territorial ambitions regarding Taiwan as a ‘serious threat,’ 61% believe an invasion is unlikely in the near future.
The poll indicates that 52% of Taiwanese people think the United States will assist them militarily in the event of a Chinese invasion, though only 40% expect naval support.
With looming threats from China marked by increased military drills, Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te is expected to address national security in an upcoming major speech.
