Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum Groped in Broad Daylight
"During a press conference on Wednesday, Sheinbaum confirmed that she will be pressing charges. My view is, if I don't file a complaint, what will happen to other Mexican women? If they do this to the president, what will happen to all women in our country? she said. Sheinbaum added that she had experienced such behavior in the past and felt she needed to make a stand, declaring a line must be drawn."
"The moment came as Sheinbaum was speaking to voters on Tuesday in Mexico City near the National Palace. Video posted to social media shows a man coming up behind her, attempting to kiss her on the neck, and wrapping his arms around her and groping her body. Sheinbaum appeared uncomfortable as a staff member stepped in, but it didn't appear to phase the man, who was seen trying to grab her again."
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was groped and had an attempted kiss by a man while walking near the National Palace in Mexico City. The incident occurred as she walked from the National Palace toward the Education Ministry after choosing a five-minute walk instead of a 20-minute car ride. Video shows a man approaching from behind, attempting to kiss her on the neck, wrapping his arms around her and groping her, despite staff intervention. Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada confirmed the man was arrested. Sheinbaum announced she will press charges, described prior similar experiences, and urged states to reform laws to make reporting assaults easier.
