Max Verstappen beats Piastri to take F1 title race to Abu Dhabi GP as Norris falters
"Max Verstappen won the Qatar Grand Prix to ensure he remains squarely in the world championship fight which, with title leader Lando Norris in fourth and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri in second, will now be a three-way fight to the finish at the season finale next week in Abu Dhabi, with just 16 points separating all three drivers."
"Indeed that he has been in the mix and is so close at the last round of the season is remarkable. He had been 104 points behind after the Dutch GP but when Red Bull brought upgrades to their car that addressed the balance issues that had plagued it for most of the season, Verstappen immediately exploited it and as the two McLaren drivers took points from one another, the world champion came hurtling up the rails."
Max Verstappen won the Qatar Grand Prix, overcoming a climb from third on the grid to take victory. McLaren failed to pit both drivers under an early safety car while the rest of the field did, giving Verstappen a free stop and the lead that others could not recover from. Oscar Piastri finished second and Carlos Sainz third, while championship leader Lando Norris dropped to fourth after picking up damage when he went wide. Norris now leads Verstappen by 12 points and Piastri by 16 with 25 available in Abu Dhabi, setting a three-way finale. Red Bull upgrades reversed earlier balance problems and powered Verstappen's late charge.
