According to a recently unsealed FBI criminal complaint, Mahmoud Amin Ya'qub al-Muhtadi armed himself and gathered a group to cross from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel during the attack that left more than 1,200 people dead."
"Hamas fighters also kidnapped more than 250 people, including dozens of US citizens, during the raid. On 13 October, Hamas released the 20 remaining living hostages after the two sides agreed to a tenuous ceasefire in Palestine. Al-Muhtadi was an operative of the Gaza-based military wing of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, according to the complaint prepared by FBI supervisory special agent Alexandria M Thoman O'Donnell and submitted to a federal judge on 6 October."
The FBI has accused Mahmoud Amin Ya'qub al-Muhtadi of participating in the 7 October 2023 Hamas-led attack by arming himself and leading a group from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel. The assault killed more than 1,200 people and resulted in over 250 kidnappings, including dozens of US citizens; 20 remaining living hostages were released on 13 October after a ceasefire. He denied terrorist involvement on his US visa application and became a legal permanent resident in 2024. An arrest warrant was requested on 6 October, and inmate records show a person with the same name and age held in St Martin Parish, Louisiana. He faces possible charges of visa fraud and conspiring to provide support for a foreign terrorist organization. Social media and email accounts revealed a years-long affiliation with a Hamas-aligned paramilitary group and firearms training.
