Israeli guards told jailed Gazan his family were dead. It was a lie
"I heard her voice, I heard the voice of my children. I was astonished, it cannot be explained, they were alive. I saw my wife and children alive. Imagine amid death - life,"
"I got hysterical,"
"in full alignment with Israeli law and the Geneva Conventions"
A Palestinian photojournalist from Khan Younis was detained at Shifa hospital on March 18 and believed his wife and children had died in bombing until his release under a US-mediated ceasefire. He was among 1,700 Palestinians freed and 250 prisoners exchanged for 20 Israeli hostages held by Hamas since October 2023. His wife, Hanaa Bahlul, embraced him and the family reunited amid relief and astonishment. Addameer reported he was held under Israel's Unlawful Combatants Law, labeled a form of administrative detention, and stated 2,673 Gazans are held under that law. An Israeli law expert said the law permits limits on lawyer access and detention without charge, while the Israeli military stated its detention policy aligns with Israeli law and the Geneva Conventions.
