Israel approves controversial West Bank settlement plan DW 08/20/2025

An Israeli planning committee granted final approval for construction in the E1 area east of Jerusalem to expand the Maale Adumim settlement with nearly 3,500 apartments. The development targets a 12-square-kilometer tract whose strategic location would hinder creation of a contiguous Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital. International bodies and Palestinian rights groups characterize West Bank settlements as violations of international law and warn the expansion would effectively split the West Bank into separate northern and southern parts. Germany stated such plans would contravene international law, urged Israel to stop settlement construction, and affirmed recognition only of mutually agreed border changes.
I am pleased to announce that just a short while ago, the civil administration approved the planning for the construction of the E1 neighborhood,
