A blast at a Chinese hotel restaurant in central Kabul on January 19 killed at least seven people and wounded more than a dozen. The explosion occurred in the restaurant kitchen frequented by Chinese nationals. Emergency Hospital Kabul received around 20 people from the site; seven died before or shortly after arrival and thirteen were wounded, including four women and one child. IS-K claimed responsibility, calling the attack a suicide mission targeting Chinese citizens and citing Chinese actions against Uyghur Muslims. Since 2017 China has detained over one million Muslim minorities in Xinjiang amid accusations of serious human rights violations; China denies abuse.
