Iran World Cup squad members apply for US, Canada visas in Turkiye
Iran’s football team players attended visa appointments in Turkey ahead of the World Cup. The entire squad applied for Canadian visas in Ankara, while some players who had not previously applied for US visas also submitted applications at the US embassy. Foreign-based players joined the squad in Ankara before traveling to a training camp in Antalya on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. The World Cup is cohosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and Iran’s group matches are scheduled on the US West Coast. Iran plays New Zealand in Los Angeles, Belgium in Los Angeles, and Egypt in Seattle. Access to Canada would be needed if Iran advances to knockout rounds. Preparations have been affected by uncertainty over travel and security after the US-Israeli war on Iran and by a domestic league suspension that left many players short of match fitness.
