Indonesia eyes Indian missiles amid China tensions DW 02/03/2025
Briefly

India and Indonesia are nearing completion of a $450 million deal for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, marking Indonesia as the second ASEAN nation to acquire this system. This development comes amid rising security concerns over China's assertiveness in the South China Sea. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's visit to India, coinciding with Indian Republic Day, included discussions with defense officials, highlighting Indonesia's strategy to modernize its military. Experts view this acquisition as an essential step in strengthening Indonesia's naval capabilities in response to regional tensions.

The missile, developed jointly by India and Russia, has gained traction among several countries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, which are looking to procure both the shore-based and ship-mounted versions.
