After almost five years of suspended direct passenger flights due to COVID-19 and diplomatic tensions following military skirmishes, India and China have agreed in principle to resume air services. The relationship between the two nations has shown signs of improvement through high-level discussions. Prior to the pandemic, there were about 500 monthly flights between China and India. Despite resuming some connections with Hong Kong, direct flights to mainland China remained halted, highlighting the complexity of bilateral relations post-clash.
India and China have reached an agreement "in principle to resume direct air services between the two countries" ending a five-year suspension.
Following a deadly military clash in 2020, direct flights were cut, but recent high-level meetings have helped thaw relations between Beijing and New Delhi.
