"Houthi judges working with prosecutors in Yemen have sentenced 17 people to death by firing squad over alleged espionage on behalf of Israel and its western allies. The Specialized Criminal Court in the capital Sanaa handed down the sentences on Saturday morning in the cases of espionage cells within a spy network affiliated with American, Israeli, and Saudi intelligence, Houthi-run media said."
"A woman and a man were sentenced to 10 years in prison, while another man was acquitted of all charges, bringing the total number of people put on trial in this case to 20. Houthi-run media said state prosecutors had charged the defendants, who can theoretically appeal the sentences, with espionage for foreign countries hostile to Yemen in 2024 and 2025, which also included the United Kingdom."
Seventeen individuals were sentenced to death by firing squad by a Houthi-run Specialized Criminal Court in Sanaa for alleged espionage on behalf of Israel and Western allies. The executions were ordered to be carried out publicly as a deterrent. Two other defendants received 10-year prison terms and one defendant was acquitted, totaling 20 people tried. State prosecutors charged the suspects with spying for foreign countries hostile to Yemen during 2024–2025, including the United Kingdom. Israeli intelligence was accused of directing contacts with the accused that allegedly enabled strikes killing dozens and destroying extensive infrastructure.
