Narges Mohammadi was violently beaten and arrested by security forces in Mashhad and later accused of cooperation with the State of Israel. A brief phone call relayed by her family described severe physical abuse, including blows to the head and neck, and threats against her family. Her family reported she was in poor physical condition and urged lawyers to file an immediate formal complaint against the responsible security agency. Mohammadi had traveled to Mashhad to attend a memorial for Khosrow Alikordi. Authorities said 39 people were arrested at the gathering, and witnesses reported that security forces disrupted the event, causing clashes and violence. Her husband said she was also accused of leading and steering the gathering toward an anti-establishment rally.
