CNN Correspondent Details Harrowing Journey Into Iran Warzone as Strikes Intensify: We Just Crossed the Border'
"We just crossed the border and are now inside of Iran. The Iranian government has granted us a visa to come here and to report from the Islamic Republic of Iran, we're now trying to make our way to the capital Tehran as fast as possible, but of course, the distances in this huge country are immense and we know it's going to take many, many hours for us to get there."
"The United States and Israel are continuing their huge aerial campaign against targets inside of Iran. At the same time the Iranians continue to retaliate not just with their ballistic missiles but with their drones mostly hitting Israel but then also American military installations especially in the Gulf region but in general in the Middle East."
CNN International senior correspondent Fredrick Pleitgen crossed into Iran on Thursday after receiving government approval to report from the warzone. He traveled by car with crew members toward Tehran, the capital, which has experienced sustained airstrikes and significant damage. The U.S. and Israel continue extensive aerial campaigns against Iranian targets, while Iran retaliates with ballistic missiles and drones targeting Israel and American military installations across the Middle East. Iranian officials claim they can sustain this campaign indefinitely. Pleitgen's team faced uncertainty about checkpoints and conditions during their journey through the vast country as combat operations continued.
