Following the death of Pope Francis, Palestinian Christian communities in Gaza and the West Bank expressed deep sorrow. He was seen as a brotherly figure, offering consistent support especially during the recent turmoil. Local Christians held a mass in his honor, recognizing his comforting presence amid war. His nightly calls to the Holy Family Church provided encouragement to the small Christian community. Known for advocating peace, his Easter message emphasized unity and compassion, making his loss profoundly felt among the faithful in the region.
Pope Francis was our biggest support after God in this war... he was always like a balm for our wounds and he was always telling us to be strong.
He is very close to the Christian community of Gaza, not only the Christians of Gaza but all the people of Gaza, and all the Holy Land.
His last call came on Saturday. 'He asked us to pray and gave us a blessing and thanked us for all the service for peace.'
