Bodies of fathers, soldiers and students remain in Gaza after hostage release
"Israel on Tuesday named two of the four hostages whose bodies were returned this week as part of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, as Guy Illouz and Bipin Joshi. The news has brought long-awaited closure to their families - but frustration is growing among Israelis awaiting the return of the bodies of more than 20 other hostages still held in Gaza."
"Hamas was expected to release all remaining hostages, alive and dead, on Monday - though it had warned in negotiations that it would be unable to find some bodies within the 72-hour deadline it was given because of the destruction in Gaza. Before Monday's releases, Israel and Hamas had said that the bodies of 28 hostages remained in Gaza and named 27 of them, including a soldier killed 14 years ago."
Israel identified two of the returned bodies as Guy Illouz and Bipin Joshi, providing closure for their families while many others await returns. Frustration is growing among Israelis as more than 20 hostages' bodies remain in Gaza. Hamas had warned it might not find some bodies within the 72-hour deadline because of widespread destruction. Before the recent releases, Israel and Hamas said the bodies of 28 hostages remained in Gaza and had named 27, including a soldier killed 14 years earlier. Confirmed deaths include those from the Oct. 7 attacks and deaths in captivity. Guy Illouz was wounded at the Nova Music Festival and later died in a Gazan hospital.
