Khaleda Zia, aged 80, was taken to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on November 23 and remains in intensive care with a lung infection. Her personal physician, Dr A Z M Zahid Hossein, said she appeared to be responding to treatment and that her condition has been at the same stage for three days. Zia has multiple chronic conditions including heart, liver, kidney, diabetes, lung, arthritis, and eye-related illnesses, and has a permanent pacemaker with prior heart stenting. Supporters and family members, including her son Tarique Rahman, have urged prayers and an air ambulance stands by if advanced treatment abroad becomes feasible.
