At least 30 people dead in Nigeria 'bandit' attack DW 01/04/2026
"Over 30 victims lost their lives during the attack, some persons were also kidnapped,"
"The bodies are there [in Kasuwan-Daji village]. If we don't see any security, how can we go there?"
"They had prowled nearby communities for a week before the attack, a resident said anonymously for safety."
Gunmen attacked Kasuwan-Daji village in Niger state on Saturday evening, killing more than 30 people and kidnapping several others, including children. Attackers opened fire, burned homes and the local market, and looted shops for food. Residents say the death toll may exceed 40, with many still missing. So-called 'bandits,' criminal gangs known to target communities in the region, are believed to be responsible. Residents reported that the assailants had prowled nearby communities for a week before the raid. Survivors fear retrieving bodies because of the lack of visible security, leaving many victims uncollected.
