At least 17 killed after drone strikes school in Sudan
"At least 17 people, most of them schoolgirls, were killed on Wednesday when an explosive-laden drone blamed on Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces struck a secondary school and a health care centre. At least 10 people were wounded in the strike in the village of Shukeiri in the White Nile province, according to Dr Musa al-Majeri, director of Douiem Hospital."
"This horrific crime represents a continuation of the violations committed by the RSF in the White Nile, said Dr Razan Al-Mahdi, a spokeswoman for the medical group, adding that the paramilitaries attacked several civilian facilities in the past two days, including a student dormitory and a power station."
"Sudan slid into chaos in April 2023 when a power struggle between the military and the RSF exploded into open fighting in Khartoum and elsewhere in the country. The devastating war has killed more than 40,000 people, according to UN figures, but aid groups say that the true number could be many times higher."
An explosive-laden drone strike hit a secondary school and health care centre in Shukeiri village in Sudan's White Nile province, killing at least 17 people, predominantly schoolgirls, and wounding at least 10 others. The Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group, are blamed for the attack. Medical personnel reported that three girls sustained serious injuries, with two undergoing surgery locally and one evacuated to Khartoum. The Sudan Doctors Network confirmed the strike killed two teachers and a health care worker, noting no military presence existed in the village. This attack represents part of ongoing RSF violations in the region, including recent strikes on civilian facilities. Sudan's nearly three-year conflict, beginning in April 2023, has killed over 40,000 people according to UN estimates, with aid organizations suggesting higher actual figures.
