Freddy Guevara spent 34 days inside El Helicoide after masked men from the intelligence agency abducted him. He experienced hooding, interrogations, stress positions and psychological pressure with captors blasting salsa music. He was released and later forced into exile. During the Covid era he reported threats to coerce phone passwords and threats to infect relatives. Roughly 1,000 political prisoners remained in overcrowded, rat-infested cells. After US forces captured Nicolás Maduro, Venezuelan authorities announced the release of a significant number of Venezuelan and foreign prisoners, including Rocio San Miguel and Enrique Marquez, a move praised by Donald Trump.
