
Cathy Tie performed Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto No 2 at Carnegie Hall on a Steinway grand piano with an orchestra on a late-April Friday evening. She wore a floor-length pink tulle gown with gold sequins and maintained an impassive expression while concentrating on keys and sheet music. After the final notes, she bowed, then returned for an orchestra and auditorium Happy Birthday. The event served as her 30th birthday party, with many attendees barely knowing her. Since early 2025, she launched three biotech companies and lived in Los Angeles, Toronto, and New York. She was banned from China while traveling to start a new life with her Chinese husband, biophysicist He Jiankui, who had served three years in prison for illegally creating the first gene-edited babies; they separated three months after marrying last year.
