The London Skate Mums is a newly formed skate club aimed at making skating more accessible for women aged 30-60. Meeting monthly, the group not only fosters confidence among older women, like Jules Kurzeja, who has faced age-related discouragement but also combines sessions with professional coaching to support their skills. Their upcoming International Women's Day event aims to inspire more women to embrace skateboarding. The group aspires to grow in the future and dreams of establishing their own indoor skating space.
Sometimes I go to the park alone, and it's just me and 16 teenage boys. I'm used to it now, but when you're starting out, it helps to have peers.
The group meets at skate parks across the capital, combining their sessions with coaching from a London skate school.
We hope our International Women's Day event will encourage more women to try skateboarding.
We hope to expand, with the ultimate goal of securing our own indoor space.
