Emma Raducanu showcased significant progress in her clay court game by securing a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jil Teichmann at the Italian Open. This win marks Raducanu's second straight victory on outdoor clay and first time reaching the last 32 in Rome. Despite still feeling uncomfortable on clay, she believes her focus has improved. With her next match against 50th-ranked Veronika Kudermetova, Raducanu aims to leverage the European clay season to refine her aggressive play style ahead of the French Open.
"I still don't feel really comfortable [on clay], but I think I'm slowly finding my feet," Raducanu expressed. Her performance showcases her growing confidence.
"After earning her first win on outdoor clay in almost three years at the Madrid Open, Raducanu has now won back-to-back matches in Rome," highlighting her quick progress.
Raducanu noted, "I hadn't played a leftie since February. I spent the first few games adjusting to the way the ball curls, but I fought through."
"Playing more aggressively on the slower surface - and taking greater control of points - has been the aim," reflecting Raducanuâs strategic approach for the clay season.
