Nasa drops plan to land first woman and first person of color on the moon
Briefly

NASA has abandoned its public commitment to land the first woman and person of color on the moon as part of its Artemis program, which aims for a 2027 lunar return. This decision follows directives from the Trump administration to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at federal agencies. Previously, the Artemis website highlighted this historical intent, but this language has now been removed, reflecting a broader compliance by various federal departments with the new policies initiated after Trump's second-term inauguration.
The promise was a central plank of the space agency's Artemis program, which is scheduled to return humans to the lunar surface in 2027 for the first time since the final Apollo mission in December 1972.
In keeping with the president's executive order, we're updating our language regarding plans to send crew to the lunar surface as part of NASA's Artemis campaign.
